The Santa Barbara Vipers Girls Varsity basketball squad captured the championship at the AVAC Hoyas Los Angeles Classic National Memorial Tournament this weekend in Orange County.
The Viper roster is headlined by standout athletes from local high schools Dos Pueblos, Bishop Diego and Santa Ynez High.
On the first day of competition, Santa Barbara cruised to big wins over the California Sparks and Antelope Valley.
On day two, the Vipers dropped a back-and-forth affair to the Santa Ana Eagles by a score of 31-30. However, they bounced back in the championship game with a commanding 37-17 rout of the Sparks.
The Santa Barbara team is made up of Alyssa Chrestenson, Asha Nayak, Kaliah Alvin, Carly Letendre, Marina Quirosa, Lucy Holian, Rylan Agin, Angie Lefemine, Taylor Grant, and Eden Wynne. The team is coached by David Palmer.
