The 13U and 14U girls basketball teams from the SB Pro Skills Academy won championships at the Cavs California Classsic at the Mamba Sports Academy in Thousand Oaks.
The 13U girls bounced back from a pool-play loss against TVT and won the rematch in the title game, 40-29.
“It was a great team effort, everyone played amazing,” said coach and club director Manny Murillo. “Our youngest player Carly Letendre (12 years old) stepped up and played point guard for us and made everyone’s job easy and put them in position to be successful. I’m very proud of all the girls”
The 14U team got a huge blocked shot from Lia Papador in the final seconds to preserve a one-point victory in the title game.
“We won the championship game with great defense on the last possession,” Murillo said. “It was good for the girls to realize they can win a close game on offense and defense. This championship game was dedicated to Carly Nielsen’s grandmother, Judy Piper, who recently passed away.”
The 14U girls won the semifinal game on a three-point shot by Mia Martinez-Tomatis.
