Santa Barbara City College football’s bumpy season continued on Saturday with a 56-7 loss to Long Beach at La Playa Stadium.
The Vaqueros’ conference-opening defeat now marks four straight losses to begin the season. They have been outscored 252-33 along the way.
In Saturday’s loss, Long Beach scored 56 unanswered points, 14 in each quarter, before SBCC finally got on the scoreboard with 23 seconds left to play.
The Vaquero score came on a 2-yard rushing touchdown by Ciaran Buechs.
Meanwhile, Long Beach was led by quarterback Allen Fernett, who completed 24-of-35 passes for 345 yards and five touchdowns.
Two of those touchdowns went to Owen Tomich, who totaled three catches for 61 yards. Kyle Brown led Long Beach with four receptions for 104 yards and a score.
As for the Vaqueros, Kayson Mathabela had a strong night in the run game, taking nine carries for 70 yards.
SBCC will look for improvement on the road next Saturday against Ventura College at 6 p.m.
