SANTA CLARITA, Calif. – The Santa Barbara City College Men’s Soccer team dominated on Tuesday night, scoring four deserved second-half goals to handle Canyons 4-0 on the road.
The Vaqueros were the better team from start to finish, but that did not reflect itself in the score at halftime. Despite having eight shots to the hosts’ two in the first 45 minutes, it was still a scoreless tie. Thankfully, the Vaqueros had 11 shots in the second half, and made sure they counted.
In the 52nd minute, after a Vaquero made a great move to beat his man on the left wing, the ball came to Luis Barron who found the back of the net. It was his first goal as a Vaquero.
From there, the game got a little sloppy on Canyons’ side. They gave away two penalties about four minutes apart, of which Dean Wilson (70′) and Diego Gonzalez (74′) made no mistake, increasing the Vaqueros’ lead to 3-0.
As the game was all but over, Aidan DePaco whipped in a stoppage-time corner that found Andy Gonsales, who headed in the team’s fourth of the night.
After a disappointing home draw with Rio Hondo last week, the Vaqueros reestablished their rhythm in this match. They will hope to use that momentum during their next match on Friday at Citrus at 3:30 p.m.
