MOORPARK, Calif. – The Santa Barbara City College Men’s and Women’s Track and Field Teams delivered standout performances at the Western State Conference Track and Field Finals last weekend, breaking season bests and securing new spots in the Vaquero records.
Men’s Highlights
Colby Todd earned the conference championship title in pole vault, while Aidan Perkoski finished in fourth place.
In the 10,000 meters, David Celio cruised 25 laps to best his personal record by more than two minutes and claim a 16th-place finish in 35:36.48.
Emmett Mack powered his way to a fourth-place finish in the 200 meters with a time of 22.21, overcoming a stumble out of the blocks.
The men’s relay teams were rewarded for their efforts with a pair of second-place finishes.
In the 4x100m Relay, Reign Martinez, Emmett Mack, Beck O’Hara, and Dylan Orquiola set a new season best time of 42.94 seconds.
In the 4x400m Relay, the same group of men set a new season best time of 3:22.39, just 0.35 seconds behind first place.
In the field events, upstart Chris Pagliaro threw the javelin 39.51 meters to finish fourth, while Nic Bitar finished fourth in the shot put landing at 11.51 meters.
The men finished ninth out of 11 teams.
Women’s Highlights
Selma Jensen won the pole vault, in just her second competition of the season after suffering an injury last year.
In the high jump, all four Vaquero Women placed and qualified for the SoCal Regional Meet coming up this weekend.
Toni Chambers took second place with a jump of 1.60m, just one height below her best jump from a few weeks ago of 1.65m, which placed her fourth on SBCC’s all-time list.
Aariah Fox took third place with a jump of 1.50m, Kaylee Lawson also cleared 1.50m for fourth place, and Ryan Mendez took sixth place with a jump of 1.45m.
Santa Barbara local Kiala Haas won the 800m with a season-best time of 2:19.21, finishing nearly three seconds ahead of the rest of the pack and ranking sixth in SBCC history.
Kaylee Lawson won the Triple Jump with a personal best of 10.71 meters, which landed her fourth in the Vaquero record book, and took fifth place in the 400m Hurdles.
Aariah Fox took fourth place in the long jump for a season-best leap of 5.15m.
Ryan Mendez sprinted her way to a third-place spot on the podium in the 400m, and a season-best time of 58.52 seconds. She will be looking to equal or better her lifetime best in the mid-57 seconds, to move on and compete at the state meet in May. Among this speedy performance, she also clocked herself at a new lifetime best in the 200m, with a time of 25.70 and a fifth-place finish.
Gianna Cagliostro, Ryan Mendez, Aariah Fox, and Kaylee Lawson finished sixth in the 4x100m. Relay Gianna Cagliostro, Kiala Haas, Aariah Fox, and Ryan Mendez finished in second in the 4x400m at 4:02.04, moving into third place in SBCC history.
Despite having just seven point scorers, the Santa Barbara women finished fifth of 13 teams.
