Freshman middle blocker/opposite Sophie Otte was named State Player of the Week, announced by the 3C2A Women’s Volleyball Coaches’ Association (3C2AWVCA) on Monday.
A Bishop Diego alum, Otte has come into her own of late, capped by last week’s stellar performances. In four matches, she had 33 kills compared with only two errors, hitting .477 overall. At the net, she had 12 blocks, averaging three per match. She played in all 15 sets across the week.
Her best performances came in the first two matches of the week. Against Citrus, she hit a team-leading .524 (12-1-21) with three blocks. Then, against Canyons, she did even better, leading the team in both hitting percentage (.632, 12-0-19) and blocks (four).
For the year, Otte is hitting .374 to lead all Vaqueros. She is second only to Makeleta Leilani Stepp (31) with 28 total blocks.
