SANTA BARBARA, Calif. — Santa Barbara City College Women’s Basketball (2-0) grabbed 66 rebounds in their 88-40 blowout win over Mission on Saturday afternoon at Robertson Gym, the most boards since they had 68 in a win over Cuesta back on Jan. 13, 2016.

On top of that, 20 of the 66 were offensive rebounds. That helped the Vaqueros to 23 second-chance points on a day when eight players scored five or more points.

Sophomore guard Alanna Topete tallied a double-double with 16 points (six-of-eight shooting) and 10 assists. She added six rebounds and four steals.

Khaya Jackson was one rebound shy of a double-double but nonetheless led the team in points (20), three-point shooting (four-of-six), rebounds (nine), and tied with Topete in steals (four).

Lizzie Searls led all bench players with nine points and four assists. Five bench players had five or more rebounds: Kayli Porter, Mariia Shtykova (both six), Jessica Chiniquy, Gali De La Cruz, and Searls (five).

“I’m happy that everyone has been impactful in our wins,” Head Coach Sandrine Krul said. “As I said before the season, it’s about the collective, and we showed that tonight.”

The Vaqueros held Mission to just 17.7 percent shooting (10 percent from three) and opened a 19-point lead in the first quarter—27-8. They led 45-17 at halftime, holding Mission to single-digit scoring in both of the first two quarters.

Mission edged Santa Barbara 16-14 in the third quarter in what felt like a poor performance from the Vaqueros, who still led 59-33. They made up for it in the fourth with their most lopsided quarter of the game, outscoring Mission 29-7 to add up to the 88-40 final.

Santa Barbara shot 44.7 percent from the field and forced Mission to commit 23 turnovers. Furthermore, the visitors only had seven second-chance points.

The Vaqueros hope to keep it rolling when they host Pasadena on Tuesday afternoon—an early 2 p.m. tip-off—at Robertson Gym.
