PALMDALE, Calif. – The Santa Barbara City College Women’s Golf team had arguably their best performance of the year on Monday at WSC #6 hosted by Rancho Vista Golf Club, placing second for the third consecutive week.
It beats a previous stretch of three consecutive third-place finishes earlier this year. This time, the Vaqueros shot 44-over as a team—their best of the season—two strokes better than third-place Allan Hancock.
Aidie Smith tied for first at WSC #5, but settled for a second-place tie on Monday with three other golfers who all shot a 76 (+4). Camryn Chapman was right behind her, shooting a 77—just three strokes off first place—in an impressive round for the sophomore dual-sport athlete.
Julia Borejszo and Azul Calzadillas were the third and fourth-best Vaqueros on the day to round out the scoresheet. They, too, finished one stroke apart; Borejszo shot an 89 while Calzadillas shot a 90. Their scores helped the Vaqueros stay ahead of Hancock on the day.
The Vaqueros play one more round before they host the WSC Finals after Halloween. Before that, next Monday, WSC #7 takes place at Scarlet & Gray Golf Club in Bakersfield.
