The Santa Barbara City College women’s soccer team earned a 3-0 win on Tuesday at Cuesta College in a WSC-North conference contest.
Heading into the match, the Vaqueros knew they had their work cut out for them. “We really want to come out with a win and compete… they have a new staff with some of the best coaches in California,” said head coach Alex Zermeno.
Santa Barbara struck first with a goal in the 27th minute, followed by another unassisted goal in the 67th minute to build a 2-0 lead. Holly Willbanks capped the scoring in the 88th minute with an unassisted goal, sealing the 3-0 road victory.
The Vaqs executed their game plan. “Convert goals, we had 29 shots against Moorpark,” said Zermeno, who saw his squad adjust following a draw on Sep. 30.
The Vaqueros controlled the possession metrics, outshooting Cuesta 16-4 and earning nine corner kicks. The win further solidifies Santa Barbara’s confidence as they continue strong play in conference matches.
SBCC improves to 7-4-1 overall and 2-0-1 in conference play, and the Vaqueros will look to continue their strong run Friday at 4 p.m. against Oxnard in another conference matchup.
