The Santa Barbara City College Women’s Swimming & Diving team were crowned Western State Conference (WSC) champions on Saturday, winning 10 of the 19 swim events. The Vaqueros scored 819 points across the three-day meet, well ahead of second-place Los Angeles Valley (596).
Thus, the program’s remarkable string of conference championships continues. Santa Barbara has earned the WSC title every year since 2015—the program’s second year of existence.
Trinity Link was named Swimmer of the Meet, competing in seven events and winning every one of them.
Individually, she won the 100 IM (with a school record time of 58.33), 200 IM (2:09.45), and 100 Fly (57.27). She was also on all four of the winning relay teams; her 25.32 Fly split in the 200 Medley helped the team clock in at a school-record 1:48.52.
Furthermore, her exhibition time of 2:11.03 in the 200 Fly prelims is good for another school record.
But the Vaqueros’ unmatched depth across the team was on full display. In 16 of the 19 swim events, at least one Vaquero made the podium. In five of the 14 individual events, multiple Vaqueros made the podium.
Link was not the only Vaquero with an individual record, either. In the 50 Free prelims, Leah Rummelhoff swam a 24.18, the fastest in program history. She later would go on to win the final, clocking in at 24.45. Rummelhoff also was on three of the winning relay teams, anchoring all three.
May Guidoux was another swimmer on three of the winning relay teams, as was Katie Strohl. Guidoux earned an individual win in the 200 Free (2:00.59), too. Max Kerr rounded out the individual winners with a 19:01.05 in the 1650 Free.
Santa Barbara’s season will continue at the 3C2A State Championships in two weeks’ time. The Thursday-through-Saturday meet will be hosted by Orange Coast College beginning on April 30.
