OJAI, Calif. – Callie Tzab and Yoshino Fujita capped a memorable run at the 3C2A Women’s Tennis Doubles Championship, finishing as runner-ups after a deep tournament run. Fujita was also named Rookie of the Year the evening before the tournament.
Entering the tournament as the No. 64 seed, Tzab and Fujita battled their way to the final before falling to defending champions Paige Valenzuela and Julianna Vich of Mt. San Antonio College.
Elsewhere in doubles play, Sierra Bolanos and Jana Leowald advanced to the fourth round, ultimately falling to Valenzuela and Vich. Ashley Birch and Lela Fernstermaker reached the third round with wins over teams from Diablo Valley College and Solano Community College.
Singles Highlights
In singles competition, Fujita once again shined, advancing to the semifinals after starting as the No. 64 seed. Her tournament ended against top-seeded Aileena Hu from American River College.
Jana Leowald also made a strong singles showing, reaching the fourth round with victories over Aubrey Jimenez (Fresno City College) and Summer Herera (College of the Sequoias).
