Ventura closed the first half on a 44-8 run on Wednesday night and went on to down SBCC 105-51 in a WSC North opener at the Ventura Athletic Events Center.

Ventura jumped ahead 8-0, then the Vaqueros (1-14, 0-1) took their only lead at 14-13 when Keegan McDougal hit a 3-pointer and a jumper at the 13:59 mark. Ventura scored 44 of the next 52 points to take a 57-22 halftime lead. The Pirates (10-7, 1-0) outshot the visitors 62.5 to 32.1% in the first half and took advantage of 18 turnovers.

Ventura opened the second half on a 12-2 burst, expanding the margin to 45 points (69-24) on back-to-back layups by Timothy Turner. Turner hit 7-of-9 from the field and led the Pirates with 19 points, five assists and three steals.

McDougal nailed 3-6 from 3-point country and topped the Vaqueros with 11 points. Nicholas Muerzl added 10 points and Joseph Holden and Peterson Wotkyns had eight apiece.

The Vaqueros were outshot 58.3 to 38.5 percent for the game and committed 30 turnovers compared to just 11 for the Pirates.

SBCC will host Oxnard on Saturday at 7 p.m.
