The Santa Barbara City College women’s soccer team got off to a strong start to the season Friday with a 4-0 win over LA Harbor at La Playa Stadium, with four different players scoring.

Sophomore forward Theresa English, last season’s leading Vaquero scorer, punched in the first goal nine minutes into the contest, on an assist by freshman Gizela Zermeno, a Dos Pueblos grad. Zermeno headed a ball forward from midfield that English caught up to, cutting inside for the shot.

About 10 minutes later, sophomore forward Aly Springer, a Carpinteria grad, took a pass from sophomore Hanna Crawford and broke away from the Seahawks’ back line in midfield and then fired a low, hard-hit ball inside the far-left post from the edge of the box.

In the 34th minute, English added an assist to her scoreline, placing a cross to midfielder Hannah McLain, who headed the ball in for a 3-0 halftime lead.

Freshman Aisha Camara finished the scoring in the final minute, on an assist by Springer.
