Santa Ynez Valley Humane Society and Dog Adoption & Welfare Group (SYVHS/DAWG) have been crowned winners of the Santa Ynez Valley Scarecrow Fest’s 14th Annual Harvest Cup Trophy.

SYVHS/DAWG accepted the award at the Solvang Chamber Harvest Party on Nov. 9
Embracing the theme BON A-PET-TREAT: A Paws-itively Pawsome Day in Wine Country! the SYVHS/DAWG scarecrows captured the essence of a typical day in the valley, indulging in wine and “bark-uterie.”
Competitors included scarecrow entries from Ballard, Buellton, Los Alamos, Los Olivos, Santa Ynez, and Solvang.
“It goes beyond a win; it’s recognition to our team’s creativity and dedication, and I couldn’t be prouder,” said Julie Cousino, executive director. “It’s not just about animals; it’s about fostering connections that make a lasting impact.
“This signifies the recognition of the impact we’re creating in the community.”
Accepting the award, Ashley Slattery-Hille, board secretary, said, “We created these scarecrows to bring attention to the SYV Humane Society, not only to get the word out about the incredible animals we have up for adoption, but to also show our appreciation for all of the hard work our shelter staff does.”
