A search for a subject reportedly armed with a bow and arrow Friday afternoon on the east side of the Santa Maria Valley led to the closure of at least one road in the area and later an arrest.

Shortly before 1 p.m., Santa Barbara County Sheriff’s Office deputies began searching in the 5300 block of Tepusquet Road, Raquel Zick, public information officer, said Friday.

Authorities received a report of a suspect armed with a bow and arrow in the area, leading to a large presence of law enforcement officers to conduct a search.

The incident ended at approximately 5:30 p.m. when deputies arrested Cameron Carver, 26, of Ohio/Kentucky, Zick said.

Tepusquet Road near Santa Maria Mesa Road was closed for a time, according to the California Highway Patrol.

The suspect allegedly aggressively threatened workers in a nearby vineyard, according to emergency dispatch reports.

He is a white male adult about 5 feet 10 inches tall and wore all black clothing and a baseball cap.

The man made comments about sovereign citizen ideology and not recognizing law enforcement authority, according to dispatch reports.

He reportedly carried a recurve-style bow plus a quiver of arrows. He also may be armed with a hatchet.

Carver will be booked into the Santa Barbara County Jail on suspicion of brandishing a weapon, making threats and trespassing.
