A semi-truck and a work truck crashed on Highway 166 outside of Santa Maria on Monday afternoon, blocking the road and forcing a lengthy closure, according to California Highway Patrol.

The trucks crashed at about 12:50 p.m., according to the CHP traffic incident report page. The truck overturned and its trailer blocked the roadway, according to the CHP page.

A reporting party said they smelled gas at the scene, and debris from the crash littered all lanes of the highway, according to the CHP.

At about 1:25 p.m., Highway 166 was closed between New Cuyama and Highway 101, according to the CHP.

Caltrans was also asked to add a soft-closure sign at Bull Canyon.

The roadway remained closed until after 9:30 p.m.

Minor injuries were reported in the crash, according to the CHP.

A minor traffic backup was reported in the area of the Highway 101 and Highway 166 intersection as a result of the crash, according to the Caltrans QuickMap.
