A driver who allegedly was involved in a series of hit-and-run collisions in Santa Barbara was arrested on Monday afternoon, according to the Santa Barbara Police Department.

Police dispatchers were notified shortly after noon about a reckless driver in a red Dodge pickup truck in the area of State Street and Hope Avenue, Sgt. Ethan Ragsdale told Noozhawk.

Minutes later, dispatchers received another report from a motorist who said their vehicle was struck by a similarly described vehicle on the 3500 block of Foothill Road.

“In the course of fleeing from the first collision, three other collisions occurred.,” Ragsdale said. “The second was at Foothill and Tye Road, the third at Santa Barbara Street and East Mission Street, and the fourth was at Sola Street and State Street.”

Officers intercepted the offending vehicle on the 1300 block of Anacapa Street, where the male driver was arrested on suspicion of misdemeanor hit-and-run and driving under the influence of drugs, Ragsdale said.

“The suspect is refusing to identify himself to investigating officers, and had no identification on them,” Ragsdale said, adding that efforts were being made to identify the suspect.

No injuries were reported in the collisions.

At least one road sign was damaged during the collision spree, police said.
