A seven-run fifth inning turned it around for San Marcos Thursday, leading to an 11-5 win over Chatsworth at the Easton Tournament, in a game called after six innings because of darkness.
The Royals were behind 4-1 until that big inning. Joaquin Sandoval and Owen Estabrook each had two RBIs in the inning, and Daren Orlando, Lance Bermudes and Steven Bradley each had one.
After posting that 8-4 lead, San Marcos added three more runs in the sixth on singles by Nicky Fell and Emmett Speake, and a two-run single by Bradley and an RBI double by Caden Hodina.
Nicky Fell started for the Royals and went four complete innings, giving up four runs, four hits with three strikeouts.
Sandoval, Fell and Bradley each had multiple hits.
The Royals improve to 2-1 and return home Saturday to play Granada Hills at 11 a.m.
Grace Brethren 1, Dos Pueblos 0
Dos Pueblos lost its third game of the tournament Thursday, 1-0 to Grace Brethren.
Chargers starter Kellan Montgomery struck out eight batters over 3-1/3 innings pitched, including 7 in a row, and Kyle Spink struck out five over three innings of relief, allowing only an unearned run in the loss.
Westlake 5, Santa Barbara 1
The Santa Barbara Dons fell behind early on the way to 5-1 loss to Westlake Thursday.
Dane Dawson went 1-for-2 for the Dons. The Westlake starter worked five hitless and scoreless innings, keeping Santa Barbara at bay. Nate Johnson and Nate Kaczynski had multiple hits for Westlake.
Jack Holland started for the Dons and went five and a third innings, allowing seven hits and five runs while striking out one. Nick Dennett threw one and two-thirds innings in relief.
