The Santa Barbara Police Department detained several people Wednesday afternoon after a reported shooting on Santa Barbara’s Westside.

Police first responded to the 1200 block of San Pascual Street near Bohnett Park at around 4:20 p.m. for a report of a shooting, according to Lt. Ethan Ragsdale.

Shortly after, Santa Barbara Cottage Hospital reported a man with a gunshot wound had shown up at the hospital, Ragsdale said.

An officer also detained several people on the Highway 101 southbound off-ramp at Castillo Street after they “observed a vehicle that was possibly involved in the shooting entering the freeway,” Ragsdale said. The individuals were detained “without incident” after a traffic stop by police, he said.

Ragsdale added that the community is asked to avoid the area of 1200 San Pascual Street Wednesday as police remain in the area. “There is no threat to the public,” he said.

Additional information was not immediately available.
