Shams Jahangir-Arshad of San Marcos was only area golfer to advance at Monday’s CIF-SS Northern Regional Individual Tournament at Los Robles Greens in Thousand Oaks.

Jahangir-Arshad shot a 1-over par 71 to tied with four other players for the final four spots in the May 19 CIF-SS Finals at River Ridge Golf Course. The San Marcos sophomore secured one of the spots with a par on the first playoff hole.

The low 20 golfers advanced to the finals. 

Channel League individual champion Leo Metzger missed the cut by one shot with a 72 and Jeffrey Forster shot a 76.

The tournament champion was Buena’s Adam Anderson, who burned up the course with an 8-under 62.

Dos Pueblos freshman Teddy Vigna shot a 75, Owen Hirth of Santa Ynez carded a 76, Thomas Macintosh of Santa Barbara High had an 82 and Graham Chapman of San Marcos shot a 95. Vigna made birdies on holes nine and 12.

Hirth made three birdies and finished 43rd out of 118 golfers.

“This is the biggest stage Owen has competed on as an individual golfer and we are so proud of his performance,” said Santa Ynez coach Sara Ovadia.  “He has had tremendous growth over the last two years as a golfer, transitioning from baseball and water polo to golf as a sophomore in high school. 

San Marcos, Dos Pueblos and Santa Ynez will compete at the CIF team playoffs next Monday at Soule Park. San Marcos is in Division 2 and Dos Pueblos and Santa Ynez in Division 4.
