Carpinteria’s Shane Goodmanson needed 84 pitches to finish at complete-game 10-0 shutout of Channel Islands in a Citrus Coast League baseball game on Monday.
The Warriors (7-7 in league and 8-7 overall) swept the season series with the Raiders and stayed in the league playoff hunt. Five teams are in a battle for second place behind league leader Santa Paula. Two of those teams, Malibu and Carpinteria, play a two-game set to finish the week beginning at Malibu on Wednesday.
Goodmanson improved to 4-2 on the season. He scattered five hits, didn’t walk a batter and struck out seven.
“Shane and catcher Diego Nieves are a great battery as they set the tone for the afternoon,” said coach Pat Cooney. “They build confidence in the defense and they help the hitters to relax and do their jobs.”
Erich Goebel led the offense with three hits, including a double and a triple, walked twice, scored three times and had three RBIs.
Isaac Flores had a two-run double in a four-run Warrior fifth inning, while Joaquin Ramirez tallied a two-out RBI single in the same inning. Gabe Martinez and Nieves each scored twice and each had an RBI. Goodmanson helped his own cause with a pair of hits and a run scored.
“We’re proud of our bunch today as they mustered a good effort on the road with a couple of team members missing on a field trip to New York City,” said Cooney. “Anthony Ybarra got his first start at first base and really answered the call.”
