The Santa Barbara County Sheriff’s Office has released the name of the victim in a homicide that occurred early Wednesday in Old Town Goleta.

The victim was Efrain Alvarado Morales, 57, of Goleta, according to sheriff’s spokeswoman Raquel Zick.

No other details about the killing have been released by the Sheriff’s Office.

“The cause and manner of death is not yet available for release to the public,” Zick said.

Morales’ body was found at about 6:40 a.m. Wednesday on Carson Street between Pine and Magnolia avenues.

At about 8 a.m., deputies found a man in the area who had been injured, and he was detained as a “person of interest” in the killing, Zick said.

The suspect’s name has not been released, and his status was unknown Thursday afternoon.

District Attorney John Savrnoch told Noozhawk Thursday that his department “has not yet received any reports or request for prosecution” in the case.
