The Santa Barbara County Sheriff’s Office is accepting applications for the upcoming Community Academy, which offers a behind-the-scenes look at law enforcement in Santa Barbara County.

Community Academy participants can explore a range of topics, including the history of law enforcement, criminal law, patrol tactics, and de-escalation communication.

Attendees will also experience hands-on learning in areas such as firearms instruction and forensic evidence collection.

The program is designed for community members who want to learn more about the Sheriff’s Office and those considering a future in law enforcement. Academy participants must be age 18 or older.

“It’s a unique chance to see firsthand the work that goes into serving and protecting our communities,” the Sheriff’s Office said.

The Community Academy starts 6-8:30 p.m. Thursday, Oct. 2 and runs every Thursday through Dec. 4. The program concludes with a graduation barbecue/luncheon, 11 a.m. Saturday, Dec. 6.

Applications must be submitted by Friday, Sept. 19. Space is limited, and classes do fill up quickly.
