Following the recent successful kickoff of the I Love My Library campaign, Santa Barbara Public Library invites community members to share Valentine-themed messages of support from Feb. 1-14.

The messages will be used in ongoing advocacy efforts, with cards scanned, transcribed and displayed at the library during National Library Week in April.

There are collection boxes for the messages at more than 60 businesses, organizations, and schools throughout Santa Barbara. (See list below.)

Last week, the sold-out screening of documentary “The Librarians” presented in partnership with the Santa Barbara International Film Festival, sparked community conversation.

The film focuses on librarians nationwide who are standing up to censorship and defending intellectual freedom.

The Library on the Go van offered attendees book checkouts and library services, while members of the Library Foundation, Friends, and Library Board shared “I Love My Library” buttons and collected handwritten messages of support.

Director Kim A. Snyder described the film as a love letter to libraries and librarians, a sentiment that echoed the campaign’s goal of spreading community support for libraries.
