As Independence Day approaches, the city of Carpinteria reminds residents that all fireworks — including sparklers — are strictly prohibited in the city and surrounding areas.
“The restriction is in place to protect the safety of our community and reduce the risk of wildfires,” the city said.
According to the National Fire Protection Association (NFPA), fireworks start more than 19,500 fires annually, including 1,300 structure fires and 300 vehicle fires.
In 2023 alone, the U.S. saw over 10,000 emergency room visits due to fireworks-related injuries, many involving children and teens, the city reports.
To help ensure a safe holiday weekend, the Carpinteria-Summerland Fire Protection District and Santa Barbara County Sheriff’s Office will be on patrol and responding to calls throughout the holiday weekend.
The city also has coordinated two private security teams to patrol the beach and Linden Avenue up to Dorrance Way.
“We appreciate the community’s cooperation in keeping Carpinteria safe during the holidays,” said City Manager Michael Ramirez. “There are safer, legal ways to celebrate without putting people or property at risk.
” Instead of using fireworks at home, community members can enjoy a professional fireworks display in one of Carpinteria’s neighboring communities.
“These shows are carefully coordinated by trained experts and offer a safe way to enjoy the festivities,” the city said.
