Emergency personnel responded to Orcutt Garey Road at Dominion Road on Thursday at 5:25 a.m. for a report of a “slick substance on the roadway” that was “rendering it unsafe for vehicle traversal,” according to the Santa Barbara County Fire Department.
It was later discovered there had been a “small oil leak from an oil lease,” fire Capt. Mike Gray said.
“The leak has been contained, and cleanup operations are actively underway,” Gray said.

The road was expected to remain closed overnight while cleanup continues, a California Highway Patrol spokesperson said.
Travelers should use alternate routes, Gray said.
