The California Highway Patrol shut down a Milpas Street Highway 101 on-ramp in Santa Barbara for a time Monday afternoon due to a small fire.

Emergency crews responded at around 12:29 p.m. for a report of a “very small” 10×10 fire near the northbound on-ramp, according to City Fire Department Battalion Chief Rich Ames.

The fire was out as of 12:45 p.m., Ames said, adding that it was “potentially” started by people in a nearby homeless encampment.

Emergency radio traffic indicated that at least one tree had caught on fire.
