San Marcos softball completed the season sweep of rival Santa Barbara High with a 15-2 win on Wednesday.
The Royals scored five runs in the fourth and six runs in the seventh to earn the big victory. Both teams have just one Channel League series remaining in the regular season.
After San Marcos opened the scoring in the first with an RBI single by Isa Malarkey, the Dons responded with a Vienna Mochi RBI sacrifice fly to tie the game at 1-1.
Santa Barbara High also grabbed its first lead of the day in the bottom of the first when Laila Hernandez came in to score on a wild pitch.
The Royals evened the score in the top of the second on an RBI double off the bat of Kayla Aguilar to make it 2-2.
After a scoreless third, Solana Sandoval put San Marcos in front in the top of the fourth with a two-run single into left field.
Malarkey then drove in Sandoval with a double to the centerfield wall. Later in the inning, Malarkey scored on a wild pitch and Gianna Mandarino drove in Jess Vega to extend the lead to 7-2.
The Royals added on two more runs in the fifth to bring the advantage to 9-2 thanks to an RBI single by Sandoval and a bases-loaded walk by Cece Contreras.
San Marcos ballooned its lead out to 15-2 in the top of the seventh, with the biggest blow coming on a grand slam by Aguilar.
The other Royal runs came on a double by Mandarino and a single by Mia Cervantes to cap off the lopsided win.
Aguilar led the San Marcos offense by going 3-for-4 with five RBI and two runs scored from the leadoff spot. Meanwhile, Sandoval turned in a 4-for-6 performance with three RBI.
Hernandez had a strong day at the plate for the Dons, going 2-for-3 with a double and a run scored.
Oxnard 4, Dos Pueblos 1
The Chargers dropped their second straight game to the Yellow Jackets on Wednesday.
Oxnard got on the board in the bottom of the third, but Dos Pueblos answered with an RBI single by Brooklyn Hedricks to tie the game at 1-1 in the top of the fourth.
The Yellow Jackets provided the final blow with a three-run sixth inning to take a 4-1 lead with a squeeze play, an RBI sacrifice fly and an RBI single.
“This was one of the best games we’ve played all year,” Dos Pueblos head coach Mike Gerken said. “We played well defensively, put pressure on the defense and had the right measure of intensity.
“As far as the sixth goes, we knew the squeeze was coming. We were ready for it. It was a bang-bang play at the plate. Kaitlyn (Ashby) made a great flip to Kacey (Hurley), but the Oxnard girl just beat it. We both executed how we wanted, it just went their way.”
Hurley, Hedricks and Vereniki Maniadi all went 2-for-3 at the plate to lead the Chargers (10-11, 8-4 Channel League).
