Gabi Martinez and Sophia Wendlick combined for 28 kills, powering the UC Santa Barbara women’s volleyball team to its second straight win, a 25-21- 25-18, 25-19 sweep of Prairie View A&M at the Arizona Wildcat Classic in Tucson on Saturday.
The sweep comes less than 24 hours after a five-set win over Tarleton State in Michael Henchy’s college coaching debut.
The Gauchos had 45 kills compared to 27 for Prairie View A&M. Martinez put down 15 and Wendlick, a sophomore transfer from Creighton, collected 15.
UCSB was tough from the service line, serving up seven aces. Ayva Ostovar produced three and Rex Milan and Wendlick each had two.
Wendlick played a solid all-around match. She also picked up nine digs and scored 15.5 points.
UCSB (2-0) concludes the tournament Sunday against host Arizona.
