The southbound Gaviota Rest Area, located south of the Gaviota Tunnel on U.S. 101, has officially reopened to all travelers.
The southbound Gaviota Rest Area was closed to facilitate the progress of an emergency retaining wall project north of the rest area.
Due to ongoing construction activities near the southbound Gaviota Rest Area, the rest area is subject to intermittent closures.
Contractor for the $5.6 million project was Specialty Construction of San Luis Obispo.
