SpaceX plans another twilight liftoff of its Falcon 9 rocket Thursday evening at Vandenberg Space Force Base, setting the stage for another spectacular sight in the western skies.

The blastoff from Space Launch Complex-4 on the South Base will aim for 7:30 p.m., but additional backup opportunities exist until 11:24 p.m. Thursday.

 If needed, other opportunities also will be available starting at 7:30 p.m. Friday.

It will be the 15th flight for the first-stage booster, which will land on the Of Course I Love You droneship positioned in the Pacific Ocean hundreds of miles south of the base. 

The Starlink satellite deployment will take place a little more than an hour after the rocket’s departure. 

Assuming the marine layer and clouds remain away, a launch close to sunset could create another display in the skies for spectators on the Central Coast and in other western states.

The last launch at twilight, on March 18, was seen by residents in Southern California along with several western states, including Arizona, Nevada and Utah.

Starlink, designed and manufactured by SpaceX, involves thousands of small satellites to provide internet service across the globe, including areas where land-based access isn’t available or reliable. 

A live webcast of the mission will begin on the SpaceX account on X about five minutes before liftoff.
