Some events at the Granada Theatre are being canceled or moved to other venues due to water damage that occurred Wednesday.

Santa Barbara City Fire Department spokesperson Liliana Encinas told Noozhawk that the department responded to a hazard call Wednesday afternoon at the Granada Theatre, where they found a “pretty significant amount of water” causing damage to the stage and overflowing to the basement.

It was determined that the sprinkler system was triggered by a mechanical error. No fire or smoke was detected at the theatre and there were no injuries, she said.

While Encinas said that significant cleanup of the water was required, the Granada Theatre has not provided any information on the extent of the damage as it is still being assessed.

A performance by Les Ballets Trockadero de Monte Carlo scheduled for Thursday night had to be canceled due to the damage, with no reschedule date. 

Additionally, a performance by Limón Dance Company, presented by UCSB Arts & Lectures, scheduled for Saturday night has changed its venue to UCSB’s Campbell Hall.

The date and time of the event — 8 p.m. on Saturday — will remain the same, and UCSB Arts & Lectures said that the event will now be general admission with no assigned seating.

“Gold Circle” ticket holders — tickets that cost $100 or more — will have access to the section marked reserved.

“Please arrive early to allow time to purchase a parking permit and select seats,” UCSB Arts & Lectures said. “Current tickets will still be valid for entry, however the section and seat number will no longer apply.”

The venue for the Feb. 1 Renée Fleming in Recital was changed to the Arlington Theatre at 1317 State St., Arts & Lectures said.

The Granada Theatre had not provided any information on the status of other future performances.
