The Northern Santa Barbara County Athletic Round Table has recognized standout performers in the emerging sport of stunt, with St. Joseph High School claiming its first Mountain League championship in program history while sharing the title with Atascadero and San Luis Obispo high schools.
Stunt, now recognized as an NCAA championship sport, consists of four quarters with precision-based routines, including partner stunts, 12-girl pyramids, elite tumbling and combination rounds.
The sport demands exceptional technique, strength and safety execution on nonspring floors, distinguishing it from traditional cheerleading.
St. Joseph junior Claire Cisney earned Mountain League MVP honors after recording 264 rounds, 209 points and a 39 power score while competing in multiple positions, including back base, main base, side base and tumbler.
Head coach Maegan Castle was named Coach of the Year for guiding the Knights to their historic championship.
Meanwhile, Righetti High School fielded its first stunt team this year.
