Dos Pueblos High alumna Stamatia Scarvelis finished 10th in her qualifying group for the women’s hammer throw at the Tokyo Olympics on Sunday and missed moving on to the finals.

Scarvelis, competing for Greece in her Olympics debut, threw 69.01 meters in Group A competition at the Olympic Stadium. The top 12 throwers out of two groups advanced to the finals. Five throwers came out of Group A, led by overall leader Anita Wlodarczyk of Poland with a mark of 76.99.

American Brooke Anderson was second in Group A at 74.00.

Wang Zheng of China topped Group B with a mark of 74.29. Canada’s Camryn Rogers finished second at 73.97 and Gwen Berry of the U.S. was third at 73.19.

Scarvelis was a four-time CIF State Champion at Dos Pueblos. She captured the shot put three straight years and also won the discus title.
