San Marcos girls lacrosse defended its home field with a 13-4 win over Bishop O’Dowd of Oakland on Friday at Warkentin Stadium.
The Royals’ defense led the charge from start to finish, holding the Dragons to just one goal in each quarter. Meanwhile, San Marcos’ offensive attack was relentless and outshot Bishop O’Dowd 26-7.
“That was a grind playing them while they were fresh and we were coming off two games but it was just the test we wanted for ourselves and we passed,” San Marcos head coach Paul Ramsey said.
San Marcos rattled off three straight goals to begin the game before Bishop O’Dowd found the back of the net. That didn’t slow down the Royals, as they raced out to a 9-2 lead by halftime and cruised to the win from there.
“It was great to see us play well in the face of their pressure when we needed some mental toughness in this one and we got it. Our defense impressed everyone again,” Ramsey said.
San Marcos’ Josephine Grossman led all scorers with five goals, while Victoria Aldana dished out six assists in the win. Defensively, Carly Grant picked up four saves and collected three ground balls.
The Royals (12-3) will return to league play when they host Cate on Tuesday.
