Santa Barbara High football held on for a 21-14 road victory over Camarillo High in the season opener on Friday.

After a scoreless opening quarter, the Dons got on the scoreboard early in the second on a 43-yard rushing touchdown by Aaron Baizan.

The Santa Barbara High defense continued to flex its muscles in the second quarter, while the offense doubled the lead to 14-0 with one minute left in the half on a 2-yard touchdown run by Antonio Cruz.

On the ensuing kickoff, the Scorpions fumbled and the Dons jumped on it. A few plays later, Griffin Arnold connected with Nate Meister for a 28-yard touchdown and a 21-0 halftime lead.

The third quarter then went scoreless before Camarillo turned it up in the fourth quarter, scoring a pair of touchdowns to cut the SB lead to 21-14 with 1:34 left in the game.

However, the Dons retained possession and ran out the clock to secure the season-opening win.

Santa Barbara High will be at Peabody Stadium next Friday at 7 p.m. for its home opener against Corona Del Mar.
