San Marcos boys water polo earned its first Channel League win of the season on Wednesday, racing to a 20-9 victory over Ventura in Santa Barbara.

The Royals and Cougars each found offensive success in the early stages, with San Marcos leading 6-3 after the first quarter.

However, the Royals caught fire in the second quarter and dominated both ends of the pool. San Marcos outscored Ventura 5-0 and expanded the lead to 11-3 heading into halftime.

The Royals never looked back from there, controlling the game throughout the second half en route to the big win.

The sophomore duo of Brandon Lee and Milo Kostechko led the way for San Marcos, as they each scored six goals and drew four exclusions.

“Amazing efforts from our younger class,” San Marcos head coach Peera Sukavivatanachai said.

The Royals will now head into a crosstown rivalry matchup with Dos Pueblos next Tuesday at Elings Aquatics Center.
