Santa Barbara High boys lacrosse earned a 9-7 Channel League victory over Cate on Thursday in Carpinteria.

Despite the final score, the Rams came out of the gates hot with two straight goals courtesy of Cody Mast and Quincy Thorne. Santa Barbara’s Connor Jackson responded with a goal of his own but Cate held a 2-1 lead heading into the second.

Cate continued to have the upper hand in the second quarter, scoring three goals while holding the Dons scoreless to extend the advantage to 5-1 at halftime.

Santa Barbara High came out of the break fueled up and ready to go, outscoring Cate 3-0 in the third thanks to two goals from Jasper Larrson and one from Flynn Chenoweth.

Early in the fourth quarter, Cayden Costner of the Dons found the back of the net to tie it up at 5-5.

Larrson then scored his third goal of the night to give Santa Barbara its first lead, but Thorne quickly answered to bring the game back even.

The back-and-forth play continued when Liam Hickey and Caden Chessmar scored back-to-back goals for the Dons to give them an 8-6 advantage.

Mast scored once again to cut it to 8-7, but Chessmar sealed the 9-7 win with his second score of the game.

Santa Barbara (1-1) will host Viewpoint on Tuesday at 6 p.m.
