At about 6:30 Wednesday, May 1, Carpinteria-Summerland Fire Protection District was dispatched to a structure fire on the 1000 block of Cindy Lane in Carpinteria. On arrival, firefighters reported smoke showing from a large, single-story commercial building.

Firefighters determined there were potentially hazardous chemicals on-site and requested a hazmat response. A sprinkler system helped contain the fire to the center of the structure.
A second alarm was called at 7:05 p.m. due to the ongoing hazmat potential. Firefighters knocked down the fire within 45 minutes.
All occupants of the building safely evacuated within 10 minutes of the fire being reported. No injuries were reported.
Eight engines, one ladder truck, four battalion chiefs and both Santa Barbara City Fire and Santa Barbara County Fire hazmat units responded to the incident. A total of 40 firefighters were on scene from Carpinteria-Summerland Fire, Montecito Fire, Ventura County Fire, Santa Barbara City Fire and Santa Barbara County Fire. AMR and the Santa Barbara County Sheriff’s Office also assisted.
The Gas Company and Southern California Edison were notified and determined no utilities were damaged by the fire.
Firefighters remained on scene completing mop-up and decontamination work.
Cindy Lane is closed at Mark Avenue. The cause of the fire is currently under investigation.
