Jasmine Lind, a freshmen in the Accelerated Leadership Academy (AAPLE) at San Marcos High School, is seeking donations from the community for a give-away clothing event she is hosting.

Gently used clothes, shoes and bags can be dropped off in a bin outside the school’s Main Office, April 21-23.

“Two years ago, I was a newcomer at La Colina Junior High. Once I adjusted to my new school, I recognized an opportunity to assist my peers and their families,” Lind said.

“My mom had shared her experience in England, where they organized jumble sales. Donations of clothing were collected by local churches, which would display items on tables for people to purchase at very low prices,” Lind said.

Inspired by her mother’s philanthropy, Lind said she decided to seek donations from the community and host a similar event, but everything would be offered for free.

“I was really nervous about the first event, but I was pleasantly surprised by its success,” Lind said. “Many kids left with bags full of complimentary clothing, and several families attended as well.

“Now that I’m a freshman at San Marcos, I have the opportunity to host the event at San Marcos in April. I love that this event allows people to contribute to their own community.

Lind expressed her appreciation to Bishop High School which helps with the collection of clothing.
