Santa Barbara Museum of Art (SBMA) invites visitors of all ages to participate in Studio Sunday, a free hands-on workshop with SBMA teaching artists, 1:30-4:30 p.m. Sunday, June 9, in the museum’s Family Resource Center, 1130 State St..
Each month visitors explore a different medium, including clay, metal, ink, wood, photography and paper, and gain inspiration from works of art in the museum’s permanent collection or special exhibits.
In June, participants can paint their own version of LI Rihua’s ink on satin hanging scroll Lotus, featured in Bamboo, Rocks, and Old Trees: Chinese Calligraphy and Literati Painting.
Participants will use black tempera paint on rice paper for the outlines, leaving the negative white space to form the petals. The pieces will be mounted on a gray textured background.
