The Santa Barbara Blues Society (SBBS) will celebrate its 48th Birthday Show, featuring Grammy-nominated singer Sugaray Rayford and his band, Saturday, April 5 at Carrillo Recreation Center, 100 E. Carrillo St., Santa Barbara.

Rayford, who is from Texas, has been nominated for more than 20 Blues Music Awards. He has won the BMA as B.B. King Entertainer of the Year, and two BMAs as Soul Blues Artist of the Year.

A singer of gospel since age seven, he moved to San Diego and switched to funk and rhythm-and-blues, then became a dedicated bluesman about 20 years ago when he joined Aunt Kizzy’s Boyz.

He has also been lead singer for The Mannish Boys. His last show for the SBBS, in 2014, was a standing room only.

Doors open at 7:15 p.m.; Rayford and his band will play two sets, starting at 8 p.m.  The venue has an outdoor patio and a large, spring-loaded dance floor; beverages will be available, and birthday cake will be served.

Advance tickets available at www.SBBlues.org. Tickets also offered at the door.
