Dos Pueblos scored four runs in the fifth inning and held off a Santa Clara rally in the seventh to win a 5-2 non-league softball game on Tuesday.

Bella Nuño went 2 for 4 with a triple and Summer McCeney hit a bases-loaded single for two runs to pace the DP offense.

Georgia Wilson pitched six shutout innings and gave up just one hit. Kaitlyn Ashby pitched the seventh.

Santa Clara threatened in the bottom of the seventh with two hits and a walk to score two runs. The Saints hit a line drive to right field, but Trisha Lo fielded the ball and fired it to first base to retire the runner and end the game.

“We beat a very good pitcher today,” said DP coach Mike Gerken. “Bella set the tone with her two hits. She always leads by example and showed our girls what confidence at the plate can do. Throw a girl like Mia (Reveles) behind her and we’re going to score some runs.

“Summer’s at-bat might have been the best of the game. The pitcher kind of had her number early, but she adjusted and just hit a rope to give us the cushion we needed.”

He praised the play of Lysandra Pimentel at third base.

Dos Pueblos (12-3, 6-0 in league) plays at San Marcos on Thursday.
