The Superior Court of Santa Barbara is calling for applicants for the 2025-26 Civil Grand Jury term. Applications are now open and will be accepted until Monday, May 5.

Grand jurors investigate local issues and produce comprehensive reports with findings and recommendations to enhance government operations, said Darrel E. Parker, Superior Court executive officer.

Responsibilities include examining various aspects of county and city government, including special districts and joint powers agencies.

“As an essential pillar of the community, members of the Civil Grand Jury act as a guardians of government operations, ensuring accountability, transparency, and integrity in the use of public tax dollars,” said Parker.

Applicants should be prepared to commit 25-30 hours a week conducting investigations, interviews and attending grand jury meetings. No prior jury experience or training are required to serve.

The new Civil Grand Jury term runs July 1, 2025 through June 30, 2026.

Responsibilities include actively gathering data, writing, and/or editing reports, and conducting investigations or interviews.

Qualified applicants must be:

  • U.S. citizens, age 18 or older.
  • Able to read and speak English.
  • Santa Barbara County residents for at least one year.
