A surfer reportedly died after a cardiac arrest near the UC Santa Barbara campus and Goleta Beach Monday afternoon, according to the Santa Barbara County Fire Department.

An unconscious male surfer was pulled from the ocean by another surfer who performed CPR until County Fire personnel arrived at the scene, Capt. Scott Safechuck said.

Responding medics also attempted to resuscitate the patient, but he was pronounced dead at the scene, Safechuck said.

The medical emergency was reported between UCSB and Goleta Beach around 3:30 p.m. Monday.

No further information was available.
