The second annual Toes In The Cove Rincon Longboard Classic, celebrating the heritage and culture of longboarding at Rincon Point, Carpinteria, will run during a three-week waiting period — Saturday Nov. 2, 9 or 16.
Those dates are during the best swell and weather conditions in the cove at Rincon Point, organizers said.
The event brings together the top longboard surfers in the 805, along with special pro invitees to the unique gathering at the cove at Rincon Point.
With headline sponsor Cole Robbins Real Estate, the event is presented by Body Glove and is free to attend for spectators.
An all-ages pro-am event, the 805-only longboard contest features divisions ranging from 17 and under juniors and wahines to 65-plus, and will from 7 a.m.-5 pm.
A kick-off party, 5:30-8 p.m. Oct. 30 at Surf ’n Wear Beach House, will feature live music by Sam Adams and Denny Auberg, a raffle, event highlights plus a taco truck, and beverages by Bartender Trading Co.
Reynolds “Rennie” Yater will be honored as the recipient of the 2024 Roger Nance Ohana Award for giving back to the community and his contributions to the sport of longboarding.
Originally a fringe division in the annual Rincon Classic, the eclectic 805 longboard community wanted its own event for years.
Surf Happens, the producers of the Rincon Classic since 2001, have partnered with sponsors to create a longboard-only event at the Queen of the Coast.
Toes In The Cove showcases a diversity of ages and categories honoring the tradition of old, and new school for one special day each year.
Sponsors are: headline sponsor Cole Robbins Real Estate; presenting sponsor Body Glove; Silver sponsors Surf n Wear Beach House, Bartender Trading Co., and Ziobaffa wine; bronze sponsors Hope Ranch Surf Club, The Cove At Rincon, Da Kine and Rincon Brewery; and contributing sponsors Channel Island Surfboards, True Ames, Seek Health, Sexwas, and Red Wing Shoes.
