One man was hospitalized and another jailed after an early morning stabbing Sunday outside Santa Barbara City Hall, according to police.

Shortly after 6:30 a.m., police dispatchers received several 9-1-1 calls reporting an injured and bleeding man near City Hall at Anacapa and East De la Guerra streets, Lt. Kasi Corbett said.

“Officers located the victim, a middle-aged male believed to be homeless,” she said. “The victim was suffering from a stab wound to the neck, and was quickly transported to Cottage Hospital by medics.”

Detectives and patrol officers, including members of the Community Action Team, began investigating, and were able to identify a suspect in the attack, Corbett said.

The suspect, 27-year-old Mitchell Grant Grote was located on Milpas Street, Corbett said, and was arrested on suspicion of attempted homicide.

He was booked into Santa Barbara County Jail, with bail set at $1 million. He remained in custody Sunday night.

“There are no suspects outstanding in this investigation,” Corbett added.
