Two attempted kidnappings occurred Monday night in the UC Santa Barbara-Isla Vista area, according to the Santa Barbara County Sheriff’s Department.
Sheriff’s deputies and other law enforcement officers were scouring the area around Storke and El Colegio roads for the suspect, sheriff’s spokeswoman Raquel Zick said.
The locations of the attacks weren’t provided, but one reportedly involved a woman who lives at the Santa Catalina Residence Hall, formerly Francisco Torres, at 6850 El Colegio Road.
One of the attempted kidnappings occurred at about 7 p.m., Zick said; the time of the other was not available.
The suspect was described as a college-age male, approximately 5-foot-10, with a thin build and dark hair. He may be associated with a late-1990s gold Toyota Camry or a similar vintage Honda Civic.
A K-9 team and a county helicopter were brought in to assist in the search, which was centered around the western end of Isla Vista.
As of 10:20 p.m., the suspect had not been located.
Residents in the area were asked to remain indoors while the search was underway, and to call 9-1-1 for any possible sightings of the man.
They also were urged not to walk alone, and to use the UCSB escort service.
Additional details were not available late Monday.
