A handful of suspects wanted for a stabbing and attempted robbery Wednesday night at the Coal Oil Point Reserve near Isla Vista were still at large on Thursday, a UC Santa Barbara spokesperson confirmed.
Four or five male suspects in dark clothing were involved in “an attempted robbery resulting in a stabbing” at Coal Oil Point Reserve, according to initial information from the UCSB Police Department sent out to the community.
The reserve, located on UCSB’s West Campus, covers roughly one mile of coastal habitat.
The suspects were last seen running northbound toward Slough Road.
At least three of them had knives in their possession, according to an emergency alert sent out to UCSB students. The first of three alerts went out at about 9:10 p.m.
University spokeswoman Kiki Reyes said that one person was transported to the hospital with non-life-threatening injuries. That person is unaffiliated with the university.
She added that UCSB police conducted an “extensive search” but could not locate the suspects.
The department has increased patrols in the area.
She urged anyone with information to contact the police tip line at 805.893.7274.
A Santa Barbara County Sheriff’s Office spokesperson referred requests for information about the incident to the UCSB Police Department.
Additional information about the incident and the victim was not immediately available.
