Part of Waller Park in the Santa Maria Valley was closed for a time Sunday while law enforcement officers investigated a suspicious package.
Santa Barbara County sheriff’s deputies responded to the park at approximately 8:30 a.m., said Raquel Zick, Sheriff’s Office spokeswoman.
A section of the northwest side of the park and nearby Waller Lane were blocked off due to the investigation, she added.
The other sections of the park remained open, Zick said.
At approximately 12:45 p.m., Zick said the closed areas had reopened after deputies determined the suspicious package was an abandoned bag.
Santa Barbara County’s Waller Park, located at the south end of Santa Maria, encompasses 154 acres.
The popular park boasts two lakes with fountains, picnic areas, playgrounds, basketball and volleyball courts, a disc golf course and a dog park.
